Recently, a Het friend razzed me about not supporting an anti-Gay candidate because everything else he was for was stuff I Beleive in. He couldn't understand why someone "as smart as you are would be a 1 issue pony". Since I'd had similar conversations with him before and he NEVER got it, I didn't bother and have finally decided to let him go as a friend. Last time i asked him if you'd still support _____ if he told you that not only your marriage was immoral, that you were for simply existing and would spend time rooting your immoral kind and their ways out of the fabric of American society. He said it "wasn't the same thing". I hoped he'd learn, since his wife "got it". I was WRONG.
I also realised that I was going against my Beleif in the Wrongness of the Dbl-Standard. I would have let a Christian friend go IMMEDIATELY with attitudes like that but I was giving him a "pass" since he is Heathen. Doing so diminishes me and I'm now in line with my Beliefs.
Too bad, because his wife's "traditional" enough that she'll have to cut off our friendship...
