Beginning Harvest...
Oct. 4th, 2009 09:07 amWell, the Akebia only produced on one vine. Think of a Pomegranite that tastes like a Pina Colada. The food mill is broken so I'm just eating them as they open, spitting the seeds like I would a Pomegranite or a Watermelon;>.
My 1st dig of the Purple Sweet Potatoes was very disappointing. only a few small tubers. Hopefully, the other clumps will be doing better. I think I've got all the Hairy Gourds picked, including one WAY past it's picking time. Think mature Zuchinni;>! I did find a single plant of my fav Hot Pepper with a single pod on it so I haven't lost my Aji Limon. More flavorful than a Habenaro but with about 50% the Heat. Easier on the average Joe. The Guava didn't bloom this yr. I'm not going to protect it. Instead, it's spot will be taken by a 'Mexicola' Avocado which can take Temps down in the upper Teens.....
Cheers,
Pat
