Got an e-mail from my SIL about lunch with her and my brother tomorrow. Normally, this would be a "Good Thing" but since Chuck quit his job and Sandi decided to go "Talk To" them...I've a touch of trepidation about the whole thing, esp. since my folks who live a couple blocks away were not Invited.
They mean well, don't get me wrong BUT they tend to treat us more like children than actual chronological elders. It's not an Uncommon phenomenon. Pretty much EVERY Disabled person gets it from some folks. It's as if being unable to Physically Work means you're too Stupid to Work.
For the last almost 4 rs we've done everything a Gay Worker in Florida CAN do to deal with Workplace Bullying and with 3 months left before being Elegible for SSI, he'd had ENOUGH. There's NOTHING that they could do that we hadn't but that's not the point. The Point is that no matter what a Disabled person does, there will be folks that assume that their Disability prevents them from doing what THEY would...even those raised the same way.
Hopefully, it'll be a lovely lunch and my Worry is over nothing.
Cheers,
Pat

Oh, eyeroll! I hope they come back and say "The place is scared shitless that you guys are going to sue them, here's some cash."
