On one of my Heathen lists it was posted that a certain Theodish man was running for office on the Republican ticket and was made fun of by a regional Lefty rag. The sad thing? The lack of support for a fellow Heathen.
Now, I'm not Theodish and personally have a problem with a lot of it, that's why I'm NOT. Part of the beauty of Heathenry. Personally? The Republicans aren't the most Tolerant, not that the Demos are either...just show up at a local meeting and be "Out" either/both religiously or orientationally.I would have gone Indep or Liber, though both have problems as well.
One thing ALL Heathens I know is that they don't deny that the God/desses of other do not exist. Appearantly, because this Theodsman didn't do this, he's basically a traitor to Heathenry in some people's eyes. He'd alread stated his Faith in a public forum, something a heckovalot of folks HAVE NOT. Just because he didn't state, BEFORE AN ELECTION IN THE REPUBLICAN PARTY that YHVH doesn't exist(something I personally don't agree with. I beleive He exists, I CHOOSE to Follow my Heathen ANcestor's God/desses, not my Christian ones...), he's somehow denying his Heathen-ishness.
I may not agree politically with the guy but having one of us with the balls to go Public in Politics is something to be proud of, not denegrated....

Pat

Well the first thing for me to bear in mind in all this is if *I* even consider said person to be a heathen; after all said person apparently got married in a church and did so in a kilt. Deeds speak louder than words. IMO that is 2 strikes. Then in the article said person dares to equate heathenry with wicca and in the same breath alluding to celtic-based drivel? Strike 3. Politics and 'kingship' (guffaw!) aside, I consider him non-heathen given the flip flops in position I have seen said person make over the years within heathenry itself. IMO said person was fair game to get lambasted from all parties.

There is also the fact that said person and his ilk have made enough enemies within heathenry to not lend support in this matter. The behaviour I have witnessed stemming from this quarter over the years is ample enough reason to say such are not worthy of backing, heathen or not; therefore, said person better have a hoard of luck to dip into because the ill-wishers are legion. Reap what you sow.

Nah, there are honest lawyers. There are even honest pols, tho they tend not to get very far. But this guy is just completely and utterly ego-driven. Like another heathen leader I could name . . .

I now await the outraged responses from him and his friends. He is on LJ.

Puca's saying basically what I would say, plus some--he's known this guy longer than me.

It's nice to have someone running for office and being open about not being of the desert god and having a chance to win. It's a shame it's a Republican. I am not as embittered about Theodism as I probably should be. I still hope people seduced by it can be drawn back to another form of heathenry. But this guy . . . fails some of my tests for being heathen, and has caused much harm. I hope he doesn't win. I would probably try to save his life; but I haven't even looked to see if he has a Wikipedia article that I can improve, that's how little I care for him.

I hope someone worthier can step on his shoulders.
