On one of my lists a member was exstatic that the USAF Academy had put in a Stone Circle for thier Pagan recruits. I wasn't particularly. Other than the culture(s) that originally produced them were surplanted by the Celts and Nordic folks, not even Modern Druidry requires Rites to be carried out in one. And the few that would would Damn sure only do so in one either historic or at least orientated to the Solstices and Equinoxes. It's like the Mormons calling the Mayan temples "Hebrew". Then again, I don't wear a pointed hat or play Quidditch so how would I know about what's REAL;>.....
It's one of my MANY Pet Peeves that a large portion of the alt-rel community will take anything other than Violence as a "Positive" step. Think what would have happend if for the end of DADT they'd put in some Pink Liberace-like place, not to mention all the Racial Stereotyped BS they could of done. 'Course, that's different, right;>?

Yeah, I keep seeing people getting all excited over the stone circle. Which has been desecrated a few times and apparently destroyed this last time because they're now meeting in the basement of the chapel. Nothing's changed. Oh, except that someone(s) are looking into the credentials of the staff at the Academy and they may loose accreditation. Apparently next year's class will not be able to graduate, nor this year's. Gods alone knows how long they've been cooking the credentials of teaching staff there.

Personally, I'm curious about those that pushed for this firecicle(because that's really all it is form all the pics I've seen). It doesn't fit the Rites of ANY alt-rel I'm familiar with in the USA and I've been "Out" of the Broom Closet since the late "70's"(when I put my religious affiliation in highschool as Wiccan. And it wasn't in some someday Blue State either;>). I'd put my money on some newage weenie(like the guy burning Sage in one of the pics of it I've seen)over someone from an actual alt-rel. Probably someone with a Wiki-addiction, the modern equivalent of a Llewellyn Reader;>...

Some wiccan thing, I believe. Apparently staff rather than students asked for it, as there are (supposedly) only 2 pagan students on campus. there could be more but they really push xian dominionism up there on the hill.

Probably not even Wiccan, just some crap "cooked" up from some DIY books from an Occult/Newage section of a discount bookchain. Looks like someone in the PR dept was looking at their bad press and figured this would "show" how "Inclusive" the campus "really" was....

Maybe, although fire circles are big around here. Unfortunately, there's usually a summer long total fire ban so they can't use it anyway, except (maybe) October through February.

Not surprising. I've watching these sort of Eejits at gatherings for DEC. My fav is trying to keep open candles lit, confused as why they'd blow out when it never happened in their living rooms;>...
