I have to remind myself that oft folks mean well, even if they don't have a "Clue" and come off awefully Patronizing. I'm referring to "pop" Health advice given to those with serious Illnesses.I realise that it's had some days when someone Cheerfully tells you that you can end your _____ with just a couple Herbs or a Chant/Prayer/Etc.
Now, these aren't just friends and list/groupmembers/etc. Even Health Professionals can slip into this, though usually at a more functional level(for one thing, their advice usually has SOME backup other than a website with lots of Woo..). And in Truth, their advice probably works for a "newbie" to a particular Illness but if you've been "dealing" with "whatever" for many yrs, chances are you've probably tried it before. It even might of worked for a while but just like Western Medicine, nothing Works FOREVER....
Recently, an e-friend had been diagnosed wit an actual Brain Tumour and one of these well-meaning folks suggested Lemon juice and garlic. Not Knowing his particular meds, those generally given to those with both major surgery and brain involvement both those would be contra-indicated for disturbing blood levels of anti-seizure meds and clotting factors. But they meant well, so you smile and thank them and Hope no "newbie" took such advice and ending up Stroking out or having a Grande Mal in a dangerous spot....
Cheers,
Pat
