I recieved a couple of surprises(two positive;>) yesterday as I attempted to clear the backlog of grass caused by 6 weeks of Rain, which also prevented any Mowing.
The best was finding a plant of the 'Purple'Sweet Potato that I'd lost last Winter due to Possums breaking into the greenhouse. Appearently, a vine had rooted in the hedgerow and that protected it through the WInter. Originally through Sandhill Preservation, it's a Sweet,Purple, Dry-fleshed Sweet Potato with a Purple skin as well. It's a god general Sweet and very Hardy. My fav next to the pretty much impossible to get to Harvestable 'Okinawaaan'.
The other was one of the subtropical Amorophallus'...albus. With sattelite tubers at the end of long branches, three of which stuck straight up the durn thing looks like a cross between a Fiddler Crab and a Tarantula. The not-so-positive was the riverii. The main tuber had been munched by a number of soil pests. I carved out all the rooten bits and hope they might callous over. If not, at least it produced "babies".
Only one more day of work and it's fini for the lawn....until 3 weeks later when it'll be due again!
Cheers,
Pat
