A number of PC weenies were decrying a certain small country's desire to ban minarets. You can tell that they've either never lived in a Muslim country or near a mosque with one. The PURPOSE of a minatret is to provide better accoustics for Call To Prayer. They aren't attractive decorations(though they are attractive),they're broadcast towers. In our old neighborhood the mosque was 10 blocks away, yet you could hear the Call in an interior room with doors and windows closed....
And the Smarty pantes that'll say that they don't have to broadcast don't get it. That's it's PURPOSE. Once built, in most Western Legal systems they'll be able to broadcast no matter what the local Noise Ordinances are because of the Common Sense factor: It's like telling someone they could put in a mega sound system then act surprised when the "tunes" come out.....
