mdehnersIf you like Urban Fantasy, esp with a dash of sex and humor, you'll like this book(Haven't read any more of the series so...).
Verity is a member of a family that has protected and guided the Cryptid population of N American, both Sapient and Non for generations. She beleives in the family mission and purpose...just that she'd rather be a professional Dancer. So she's trying to balance the family Work and her dream of being a Dancer in Manhattan. Since neither pay well, she works to "pay for bullets and heels" by working at a Strip club(as a coctail waitress...NOT a Dancer, thank-you-very-much;>!)that is run and mostly staffed by humanoid Cryptids.
The usual Supernatural and Cryptozoological specimens(with a twist to make this a unique Universe) as well as a few new creations. My fav of those is the Aeslinn Mice, a subspecies of Fieldmouse with the intelligence,curiosity and imagination of a preschooler, who, because of their micelike lifespans create religious rituals to provide the colony with Past Memory. Unfortunately for the person Adopted by a colony, what they remember is much like a kid would, hence "The Feast of FINE DADDY!!! I'll kiss the next man Who Walks through My Door"(one guesses a phonecall about grandchildren perhaps;>?)and such. As Verity points out, their only defense is that few folks can get past the "Awwwwww" Factor of singing, dancing mice to hurt them;>.....
