I'm making a grocery run today and the cashier of the particular store I was shopping at tried to convince me to buy their "reusable" bag. I said "no" and she made the usual shpeal so I stated:
Theirs wasn't washable. It was barely wipeable.

She blinked and said, "They DO get Gross". DUR!!!!!!!!! It's one of the things I JUST don't get. How folks that slather Purell every time they get in to their car or use a cart don't think twice about bringing bags soaked in leaked meat packages in and put their Veg and/or Fruit within.
Ours go from unloading groceries to hamper....PERIOD.
A "Green" Logo doesn't Magically prevent foodbourne illnesses y'know......
Cheers,
Pat

The cashiers where I shop usually plastic bag fresh meats.

I already have started to wear out the cheesy non-woven bags - they are literally coming apart at the seams. I'm tending to want more canvas and denim, but I have to make those.

Interesting. I'd never consciously thought about it, but all my food bags are washable, and any time something spills, they get washed, even if it's only scraps of spinach. I don't bother if there's no visible spillage; veggies and fruit get washed before consumption anyway, because who knows what was on the hands of the previous customers picking through them. (Not in bleach though.)
