Yrs ago I had a hobby of growing Carnivorous Plants. It was a lot of fun but when I moved here to Florida they didn't survive the drive. Gee, a cross-continent drive in July stuck in the back of a van?! Can't Understand why;>?
Well, a few yrs ago I got a Sarcennia seedling. I knew they'd do well here outside since they grow locally(well, they DID until a combo of Developement and Drought pretty much wiped them out of every place except nat'l parks with rivers). It's done so well that, esp since this "Mobility Issue" may be pretty much permanent that a hobby that pretty much takes care of itself as long as you keep water in their trays is a good one. They even feed on mosquitoes(The Pings, Sundews and Trumpets, Flytraps only eat larger prey). Our new neighbors have a little girl so she's interested in at least the Trumpets. She thinks they look like "fancy glasses";>!
My climate here is actually better for them than San Francisco's was. I also don't have to drag half of my collection into the veggie bin of the frige for a couple months in Winte for their Dormancy requirements either...much to Chuck's Rejoicing!
Cheers,
Pat
