Pet Peeve #....

Now that a couple days have passed and Mom is back home from the hospital(well enough to give us a ring the morning post hospital to ask if we wanted to go with them to the farmer's market at 0700;>)that the normal BS of life gets noticed.
I admit, I'm one of those annoying folks that "Support Our Own". Now, doing so for "My Other Tribe" hasn't been a problem since I made the decision in the early 80's. Sure, most of the time it costed a bit more but nothing horrific and when something didn't arrive within a reasonable time, it was they who usually contacted me(that is, if the problem was on their end;>). Not so much with the alt.rel community.
Thing is, as you get older, you become less-n-less Tolerant of, well BS. Stuff that I would "deal" with "In Solidarity" 30,20 even a decade ago today...not so much. Truthfully, the Heathen businesses I've dealt with hasn't been always up to Lore Standards either but compared to the majority of Pagan ones I've personally dealt with?
So, once again I'm "dealing" with "Pagan Standard Time". Annoying at a festival but in a business setting? Esp. after they've cashed the cheque?. So, more than a month later I've doing what little one CAN do with mail-order companies.
One thing I've come to the conclusion with MOST of the Pagan businesses I've PERSONALLY dealt with over the last 30 yrs. The MAIN reason they started businesses was so no one could tell them when and how hard to work.
In other words, to remain eternally a Teen....

That's why I prefer to deal face to face, and pay for goods as I get them. There's something about dealing directly with someone for something they have in hand ready to sell that makes it more solid, and honorable. I know shit happens with me, so I seldom take custom orders. I know I forget things, part of having a head injury, so if I do take a custom order, I write it down three places. Because I hate the idea of being a flake.

Then again, I'm one of the few pagans/heathens that can hold a decent job for more than a year, even with my cognitive issues.

IME Heathens are a little better but still in general pretty laid back on the concept of Customer Service;>. In this case that's got me pissed off at the moment it's a Heathen book being sold by a Pagan online bookstore. Thing is, if they just sent me an email a month ago saying they were out of stock and was on reorder, I wouldn't be mad. I helped my roommate in San Francisco run an online business so I know how it is, esp with "niche market" materials. But NO...I've gone 3 times to their website and inputted my order # to find it's status and EACH TIME the order is listed as having been mailed the day BEFORE. Sounds like this is so SOP for these folks that they have a macro or something;>....

That is a REALLY crappy business practice. I'd take screen shots that include the date, and keep them in case you need to take them to smalls claims or report them for fraud.

Better an honest backorder, than "Oh, yeah, it's in the mail" for weeks on end. Especially if they cashed the check. If it was me, I'd be saying "Hey, our supplier hasn't come through for us, do you want to continue to wait, or would you like a refund?"
