Eyes Wide Shut.....

mdehnersOne of the many lessons I learned last election was how much we ignore what's in front of our faces because you prefer your Illusions.
During the elections I discovered that a number of folks I considered friends really weren't. They were Supporters of Romney. Not, "I HATE OBAMA and this is what I'm stuck with" supporters but those that were with him from the beginning and that agreed with his Beliefs. I remember asking one if they really agreed with Romney on Women, Minorities and the Working Class. He stated he did and was actually a bit surprised that I DIDN'T. Needless to say, I wasn't the only one seeing only what they wanted too;>.
What still amazes me is how much I've mellowed in the last few yrs. Even a decade ago I would have given him quite the lecture but I didn't. I changed the subject and just stopped spending time with him. Apparently, the feeling was mutual;>.
I saw a guy would liked me so I figured he liked ME for ME. He saw a White Guy with some Conservative views and figured he were alike. We both saw what we wanted to see.
We were both soooo Human;>.
