"The Talk".....
Dec. 14th, 2013 07:16 amAfter a couple days to cool down, I've sorta forgiven my new MD. After all, WTF can I do? It's not like I can ask for another;>....
It's plain she needs what I've long since labeled in my head as, "The Talk". It's very simple and oft ignored by today's docs because so many of them specialize. It basically goes, "Just because you have ____, this doesn't mean you get a "Get Out of All the Other Crap that can Happen" card"....couched in a way that doesn't Piss them off. Few MD's like to be reminded they're ignoring something THAT simple;>.
Not ALL my problems are aids/hiv-based. I've had Arthritis since I was in my 20's. I was born with a deformed lower lumbar vertebrae which gave me back problems since middle school. It herniated in the late 90's and ruptured in the 00's. I've hearing loss due to an ear infection and vision lost in one eye due to a medication reaction(well, that one WAS an aids med so;>).Oddly enough, other than my Neuropathy caused by the virus and Endocrine collapse caused by the meds(including the Diabetes and Depression), all my problems are either caused by genetics or just AGE.
EVERY MD I've dealt with as an adult I've had to give this talk to. Heck, back when I was working as a nurse I had to remind the docs sometimes then as well! It's Human Nature to see things through personal "filters". Smart Humans remember this OR remind those that take care of them THIS.
Even at the expense of Pissing them OFF.
Cheers,
Pat

Date: 2013-12-19 12:34 pm (UTC)Unfortunately, it's SOP and not just with the HD's docs. My Mom's docs do the same thing and she's got insurance up the wazoo. Problem is, since her life-threatening problems are Cardio, those are the MDs she mainly sees and they, of course, see everything through their specialty...forgetting that she's:
90+
Had Breast, Ovarian and Bone Cancer
Arthritis
Ulcers
Etc.
Next appt I'll give Herself The Talk;>.....

Pat
