Midwinter Garden....
Dec. 15th, 2013 07:47 amIt's been weird weather-wise here on "The Dangly Bits". 30'sF, 70'sF and now back again. My biggest projects are the plants overwintering in the greenhouse. Looks like a rat, possum or raccoon got in though since one of the Bloodoranges was gnawed on.
The beds are doing well, Napa and Choys sizing up nicely, Daikons and Green Onions doing well. The Leeks are putting up flowerstalks thanks to the alternating Temps. Don't remember what cultivar it is but since it's done better than ANY I've tried here....I'm letting them all go to seed so I can save them. I did the same with the Japanese Onion Shimonita Negi when it selfseeded into the lawn a few yrs ago. Nothings says "Will Do Well Here" than Naturalizing;>!
Other than that, not much. Well, dragging the Holiday Cacti in during Freezes and bringing the Cymbidiums and Orchid Cacti up on the porch to cover. One "Good Thing" about the fluxuating Temps is that they're about 2 weeks later than normal Blooming....just in Time for the Yule Season!
Cheers,
Pat
