I know for most folks, this isn't one but just the opposite....Dubbing foreign(to you) language media. I've never understood why when something is subtitled they're more likely to do an actual translation but when dubbing they go for the "jist" as they see it. This isn't just a "pain" to folks like me who may know a bit about the culture of the folks who produced the media. For some reason, it's become "in" to dub in current Slang, which mean as soon as that form goes out of stile(or if you're not in a demographic that speaks it) you're fukkt. This is most apparent in Anime. In Asia it's considered an art form for ALL ages but in the States esp. it equals "cartoon" in the PTB's and is translated as if middle schoolers in some urban area are talking. This is esp. disturbing when you are watching a PLAINLY Adult oriented Anime and characters sound like something from a Disney Channel show;>!One of the series I'm presently watching is a bit o mindless fun called 'Highschool D & D' which is about the animosity and sexuality of beings of Angelic, Fallen Angel and Devil communities....all hidden for us Mortals. Of course, being Dubbed with Eurocentric common mythology is confusing because Devils ARE Fallen Angels so why? Devils are probably Yokai or some Bakimono type...spirit beings that are Neutral and who have their own agendas where Humans are ignored, associated with or used as resources. The main character is a Horny Teen who has a Power which allows him to disintegrate all the apparel that a female is wearing. A show where women are naked, pantsu(panties) showing "cameltoe" and similar activities dubbed with middleschool voices and dialect is often quite creepy.
