With the yard, that is;>! All's left are the veg beds and a spot of grass that me and my hand scythe will take care of as soon as it dries a bit.
All the fruit trees that have broken Dormancy have been fertilized. Looks like the Asian Pears are going to follow the practice of the Plums by not Blooming at the same time. At least with the Pears one is self-fertile! Weirdly, only one branch on the 'Cara Cara' Orange and only the leaves on the Sweet Lime were damaged by this Winter's Intensity. One of the Kumquats, the MOST hardy on the property was killed 2/3's. The Kaffir Lime's dead, though that which it's grafted to is fine. Should be Interesting to see what grows...
I've discovered that Okinawan Spinach, both forms are root hardy here even in yrs like this one. Little patches of Purple or Green are popping up where they've been growing. Still don't know about the Chaya/Mayan Spinach, though I've 3 rooted cuttings to replace if they don't.
Everything's out of the greenhouse now. I've begun repotting the containerized plants, starting with the Lotus'. I'd been using a method from the old 'Florida Gardening' Magazine(back when there WAS one;>)but I'd been underwhelmed at the performance so I'm trying a method I noticed a Thai neighbor using large pots without drainage holes instead of those huge tuns. Only the mini White bloomed last yr and the standard Pink didn't or produce sizable tubers for eating. The muck left over has begun the "manuring" of the veg beds;>.
This is the LAST yr attempting Tomatoes(I know, I've said it before but this time;>!!!!)only because I found an old regional cultivar , 'Neptune'. The seedlings will go out in the greenhouse this weekend to be planted out when the soil gets up to 70F. The 'Fenyuan Long Purple' Eggplant seedlings will get potted up to their 2nd to last Indoor pots because the seed was old and germinated 3 weeks later than the Tomatoes. THey do well here so I have to remember to save the seeds of the last couple produced this Fall.
In a way I'm glad the Rain came. I've a Feeling that if it hadn't I'd have pushed myself a wee further than I should;>....
Cheers,
Pat
