Some Things NEVER Change.....

mdehnersSooooo. I'm reading one of the news sites for "My Other Tribe" and see that my Cynicism is once again vindicated. Enough so that I discommed the site.
The WORST and BEST thing about Us is our "Cult of Inclusivity". That is, because we Know what's it's like to be treated as Other, as Outsider we want to make those Feelings go away....for EVERYBODY. Unfortunately, it's like a parent that's so Sensitive that they let their own kids drown because they were trying to Save EVERYBODY at ONCE.
Many DECADES ago there was a story when I lived in DC about the events at a meeting of local Activists early in the Plague Yrs, trying to put together something to help the Victims. Months went by so that EVERYONE'S "Issues" were covered. Finally, everything had been done and they got ready to vote on it when someone yelled from the back, "What about the Lesbians of El Salvador!?!?". Consensus collapsed and it wasn't until Act Up came along a yr or two later that things got done. 'Course, the REASON things did was that AU refused to Play. They were about hiv/aids...PERIOD.
I realize part of the problem is that things are so much better now. Back when cops were Raiding our bars and folks were dropping dead EVERY DAY things like Trangendered folks attacking the Drag Community for using "their words" wouldn't have happened(or at least not paid attn. to).
Such is PROGRESS.
