My Other Tribe and SPirituality...
Jun. 8th, 2009 07:42 amPersonally, I HATE both the Alphabet Soup(GLBT+whatever's not Het) and Reclaimed Perjoratives, so I use MOT in my journalling....
For many, if not most of us Spirituality isn't something we are Interested in. No surprising, considering that for all our lives the majority of Spiritual Folk we know treat us like dirt...at best and vermin to be exterminated at worst. Many, like the majority of Hets can't make the leap out of the guetto conciousness of Monotheism to look for "Friends in High Places";>. Those of us that do often are the most Devout _____ of their groups.
It makes sense. After all, OUr God/desses are often the only Ones we can truly TRust. Friends? Family? I Know of NO member of MOT that hasn't had memebers of both groups pull a "Peter" or even a "Judas" on them in a time of need. Trust your God/desses, all others Pay Cash.....
Those experiences and relationships shape us and our devotion to our respective High Ones. It also makes us more likely to dig into our respective Lores to find the COre Concepts being taught, not just the "Outer Court" interpretation. For many Ethnic-based Ways, being the Minority tended rules to increase the chances of thier offspring to BE theirs. Needless to say, those that didn't produce, MOT, the Barren, the Elderly, etc don't fare so well. That's why a womanof a People would be killed for being Raped by an Outsider yet the offspring of an OUtsider woman Raped by one of their respective People is accepted AS FOlk(though of lower status generally than full-bloods). In groups with us in membership, it's not unusual that the Lore/Theologican/etc is One of Us. It's because we've experience asking questions that the more Accepted in our cultures generally never think of. In the Apocraphal story, it's a member of MOT that asks Gardener why the altar cloth is a particular colour:>....
