NY's Resolutions....
Jan. 1st, 2016 05:21 amNot big into them;>!In general I pick a handful of ATTAINABLE goals for the new yr. This yr is even simpler than last:
Re-read the Voluspa. Haven't since the V discussion group on Yahell closed. For Heathens, the Havamal guides your Actions, the Voluspa guides your Spirit(though both overlap a bit;>).
De-clutter my Growing spaces. Outside is easy, inside will be HARD. Inside I have a number or rare plants, some of which aren't "thrilled" about the conditions here at Royal Oaks. My normal reaction is "Heroic Measures". I'm gunna have to "stomp" on that Impulse. If it isn't compatible, it GOES. NOTHING I have is the LAST ONE on the planet after all. The closest to that is an African Violet that's commercially extinct and only a handful of folks(including me) grow it. And it LIKES it here;>!
Other than that, don't have any. Probably means I'll keep them;>....
Cheers,
Pat

Date: 2016-01-01 02:11 pm (UTC)We have what, 39 more verses of Hávamál? That's quite a bit of the year and I hadn't really thought that far ahead. I'm not sure I was even fully aware the Vǫluspá list had closed. It was Matt also, right? Or did someone else take it over after a while, or did someone else start it?? Did the list get right through the poem? Is it moribund or was the list actually deleted?
I suppose I could switch to Vǫluspá after completing this run through Hávamál. I have access to a number of versions, including my own of course, Dronke of course (never did complete the thoughts on the poem sparked by her edition) and a 1970s dissertation edition with translation that is currently sitting in the housemate's office. And I loathe Yahoo but there really isn't any better place to host it.
I definitely can't handle overlapping them, and someone may really want to restart Hávamál again, so unless the Vǫluspá list actually still exists and someone on it posts a query, let's revisit as we near the end of the Ljóðatal and are starting to repeat ourselves.

Date: 2016-01-02 12:54 pm (UTC)I don't think the Hávamál list should change focus. That would be confusing (I think it's confusing to people who might join that the Vǫluspá list is now on a different poem) and it would kind of close off the possibility if anyone ever wants to start over again. The list will only have gone through the whole poem twice. You and I may have had enough by then, and one or both of us may not have another 3 years or more to commit to the project, but others may. And it seems wasteful to start another Vǫluspá list with similar intent - on the other hand I don't want to step on the toes of that other group. (And as I say it's still most of the year away - things may look different then.) Were you associated with that list when Matt stopped doing it? Any idea what he might have wanted at that point?
Rub my nose in the need for a decision later in the year, around Midsommar maybe ... ?
