If you're old enough(and most of you aren't;>) you might remember Gahan Wilson's cartoons in various magazines during the 60's through the 90's. Some of his characters evolved into the Adams Family. If Gahan was Japanese, this show would have been HIS.
The artwork and even the theme song is very 'Adams Family'(artwork from print and music from tv show;>). Kitaro is at least half Yokai and while looking 6 yrs old is at least old enough for one of the Human's grandmother's to remember a rhyme to contact him if you need help with a bothersome Yokai. Each episode generally has the same basic format; some Woeful Yokai is causing problems, usually because Humans don't believe in them and have done something stupid(like pissing on a Warded Stone in one case or grinding it up and mixing it with concrete making anything made from it that Yokai's territory). Sadly, the stupidity of Humans here are too easy to believe since we can see friends and relatives doing the same things in our lives.
Interesting "take" on Japanese Wights. One of the MANY things Japan and Shinto in particular can teach both Heathens and other alt.rel Ways is that it is assumed that what worked with one kind of Yokai won't on another type...something our Smudge-crazy, Salt tossing fellow travelers might look into before something doesn't bite them in the arse(if it hasn't already....).
Cheers,
Pat
