Why I HATE Modern Technology.....
Jun. 11th, 2009 07:03 amjust probably not the reasons most do;>. I HATE the planned obsolescence. Everything's designed to fail after a couple of yrs so that it has to be replaced. I mean, I can Understand. after all, we live in a Capitalist economy that requires folks to constantly buy, even stuff we don't need to keep it running. Also, much of our population is both lazy and shallow. I can turn on the boob-tube at any hr and find a handful of shows exhorting folks to throw out perfectly good appliances simply because the colour doesn't match their planned new paintjob(well, with a few exeptions where they make folks work and like repaint them like I've done since the 70's).
As someone who just "broke" a lawnmower because it can't handle 4" grass, I pine for the days when you had a big, heavy metal smoke-belching monster that lasted for more than a decade and could scarf down small shrubs.
Now, for some folks, their Income is such that these experiences are not only Acceptable, it's part of their lives. As a nurse I NEVER had the disposable income to "remodel". Repaint, change a few things out sure(I AM Gay after all;>)but to gut a room simply because I was "bored" with it's looks? NEVER.
I'm Sooooo tired of Disposable EVERYTHING!
Truth,
Pat

Date: 2009-06-11 01:14 pm (UTC)At 1st glance I think what's wrong is that a hair-thing spring is broken(well it's broken, so I'm assuming;>). Of course, this delicate piece of metal is completely exposed to ANYTHING more than 5" tall so.....
What I get a "kick" out of is that my folks have replaced their window AC unit about 3 times in the last decade while the used one I put in 9 yrs ago still works(though the casing is getting a touch rusty). It even was one of the 1st to use the new refrigerants an hasn't needed a refill yet...as opposed to those new unite the folks had that needed topping off each yr. 'Course, ours isn't as pretty so....
Cheers,
Pat
