Cheering myself up...
Jun. 13th, 2009 06:17 amIt was too Bloody hot yesterday afternoon to do much outside so I treated myself to a mini film festival of the works of the Master Hayao Miyazaki(now, unfortunately Passed On).
One of the many reasons I like his work and many other Japanese Anime is that their presentation of kids is just the opposite to that of American works. In Miyazki's worlds, rotten kids become caring helpful members of their communities. In many AMerican, "Good Kids" learn to throw away their manners, obligations, etc and act Selfishly...and this is presented as "Improvement".
I've known a lot of Japanese folks and they are just as "Creative" as Americans. The idea that Creativity and Artistry are part and parcel of Selfish, Self-Absorbed behavior is a recent American one(recent meaning decades old;>)and something I Wish would GO AWAY.
Real Creativity and Artistry requires at least as much Discipline, something both the Heathen and Pagan communities lack. A concept beyond many of my Faith.....
Truth,
Pat
