"Toleration".....
Aug. 22nd, 2010 01:31 pmIt's funny in a sad way that it took a 'South Park' episode for many folks to remember that Toleration isn't the same thing as Acceptance. A lot of folks Tolerate, it's when their Toleration means they have to give up something(Tangible or Not) that they suddenly "shock" those around them who thought those were "Tolerant". They WERE. They just weren't "Accepting".
I can't think of a Gay or Lesbian that's hadn't had to "deal" with this Realization. A good example was recently in my own family. You have to realise this: Chuck and I are the only members of our family married in a religious ceremony. We've also been together only 2 yrs short of my little brother.
We spent 7 days in the same cabin as my 60+ Obese brother. He spent the whole time reminding us that he was Het by commenting on the girls...not women. Never anyone older than 24. As usual, the LAW that the most disgusting Het male will be the one Obsessed about being "molestered" by some Homo was in effect. He also had to point out that he didn't "Approve of our "Lifestyle" and he thought Marriage was for Hets. He WAS smart enough not to frame it on the "sacred". His Identical twin would have a quickie wedding every time one of the strippers he was boinking stayed with him more than a couple months. Needless to say,the Stripper+Alcoholic Biker isn't the most stable of relationships;>. Gary? He was married once but never bothered to file the papers. when his wife started to have financial problems due to her religious mania, he dropped her. Yet we're not Good Enough....
Now, I'm not a big Islam fan. I do actually consider it more Toxic than Christianity or Judaism. That said, since there's churches and synagogues around the site, they have the same Right. Personally, I'd be agin ANY religion building on Ground Zero. They have as much right to build on their property as the Catholic Church does within a couple blocks of an elementary school....and I consider them a more certain danger to American Youth than a Moderate Muslim community Center....
