Economics and Politics....
Jun. 17th, 2009 12:11 pmOne thing I began to notice lately was that friends and family's Economic difficulties were closely related to their "Lifestyles". I don't mean the term as a PC version of Orientation since all my Gay and Lesbian friends are doing fine.
The more TRaditional the Work, the less Economic stress seems to be the rule with "My Circle". Another is the World-View. The more COncervative "Live to Work", the more Progressive "Work to Live". Many of my Progressive friends work in low-end Temp jobs which allow them the freedom to take off for Festivals, SCA events, Renfairs, etc. Unfortunately, those are the 1st to get cut when the Economy tightens up. There was a time a couple months ago that I heard some definetely NOT PC grumbling from a very PC friend who couldn't get work because the few temp construction jobs were taken by Immigrants(not Illegals. They all disappeared around here around the 1st of the yr...).
I guess that's always the problem. You create your Work Environment so that employeers don't mind that you take off for weeks every yr and when things get tight, the same things that make you replaceable makes you unnecessary....
