Been Feeling a bit under the weather the last couple of days. A combo of Flu Shot, new absess and the usual BS on the news. So, in typical me fashion, I escape through my favorite books. Some of my suggestions for Cheerups:

Simon R. Green's Urban Fantasies, esp the 'Nightside' Mysteries. These are short books of the cases of John Taylor, a PI in The Nightside, a district of London where it is always 3 in the Morning. John's mother, the Biblical Lilith, thanks to some eejits messing around during the Summer Of Love "Blessed him with all sorts of Gifts, some of which arwe even Useful:>. Here you find Strangefellows, the oldest Pub on Earth, run by Merlin's decendants(guess who's buried in the Wine Cellar;>),where Agents of Above and Below drink and bicker but aren't allowed to fight. Where 'Divas!'a Drag bar where you can Channel your favorite Dead Diva or simply her Living Talent. And many more...

Lois Mcmaster Bujold's Barrayar books. The adventures of Hyperactive and super intelligent Dwarf(chemical, not biological, he always tells the ladies;>)Miles Vorkosigan. From thwarting plans of mighty empires to generally running the lives of friends and family, always fun.

Terry Pratchett. What can I say, other than hearing the news that he's in the early stages of Alzheimer's meaning there probably won't be any more books. Go Granny Weatherwax GO;>!

I tried a few new plants as usual and some were winners. One was the new Sunset hybrids of the Black-Eyed Susan Vine. In most of the US it's an Annual but here it usually comes back. I've never been a fan because I don't like Orange but these can come in all sorts of Sunset shades and the one that grew on the arbor at the front door is a streaked Fruit;raspberry, mango and lemon. I'm going to try to see if I can propagate it...just in case Winter's bad.
The same shades came from a Flowering Maple I picked up at the local Mastergarders sale. A nice surprise as well. Unfortunately, they're iffy hardiness-wise here so it stays in the pot and gets stored over winter. The Bamboo Mulygrass has done better than I expected, and the regular Muly is so pretty here that I knew it'd do well in our climate. Sort of a floppy Bamboo-looking grass. Nice sculptural look.
See! I can grow things not just for Utility;>!
Cheers,
Pat
