So, I'm thinking about next yr's garden and what to plant and where. Of the Annuals, one family I've been enamored of for decades has been the Morning Glory....esp the Japanese Imperial MG's. Delicate, Beautiful and there only for a few hrs.
As much as I LOVE the JIMG's, they do have a BIG drawback. They're frikk'n uber delicate. Some have blossoms a sneeze can shred! Most can have a day's blooms destroyed by a breeze barely hable to get a "tink" out of a windchime.
The more common MG's are quite sturdy but don't have the range of colours and forms. It's always how it is;>...
I used to have quite the collection at Hummingbird but the last few yrs lost them all. This yr I ordered 'Blue Silk' and it's American sport 'Lavender Silk', as well as 'White Hige', a White Dbl. I didn't have room for the latter this yr so it's getting planted next. They look a bit like a flower made of a White handkerchief.
Odly enough, the sport did much better and I saved seeds from it. 'BS'(oddly appropriate;>)was such a poor bloomer and the blossoms that DID were shredded just opening. There's a star-shaped kind of MG(different base species) that's now available in the States. I think I'll try one of them.
One of the big pluses of the JIMG's is that they don't grow as big as the standard MG's, making space less of an issue. However, if you live in a breezy biome....don't BOTHER.
Cheers,
Pat
