Our low-cal media is owned by "Carpetbaggers". They bought out the old owners and moved here due to it's demograffics...being Anglo-Saxon, Protestant and Republican. The thing is, there is an area where most Locals don't agree with the Talking Heads of Conservatism....Global Warming.
You see,we're at the boundry of Biomes, Temperate and Subtropical and until about 20 yrs ago we were still Temperate. A lot of these Conservatives remember chipping Ice off their Fords in WInter to get to work. They remember taking their kids over to shallow ponds to ice skate a few weeks every yr. Whnever one of these "carpetbaggers" tows the party Line, some Retired Vet calls them out because they Remember. When you've live(except when Deployed) in the same town for 70+ yrs, you know what's changed and what's not.
Personally? I like being able to grow Navel Oranges and Bananas. After all, the Earth has been hotter many times before. So this civilzation collapses. It had it's chance and tossed it away decades ago...

Pat

I think much of the stink about global warming is that it has become politicized at the expense of scientific truth. Action based on fact is what is needed and not one based on the current atmosphere created by the Chicken Littles of the world and their peanut-gallery of pot-smoking, drum bangers in the street. The media doesn't help at all since they luv whipping up a good frenzy to manufacture further stories.

Indeed the world has been a lot warmer even in the past and in fact the Germanics were thriving in the Scandinavia homeland during one of these warmer periods. Although the scientists are trying their best to understand what is going on, I think the sheer size of the world's weather system and its vast imponderables is likely beyond their full understanding and predictability. Indeed you can measure the oceans' water temps that is the driving force of things but there are so many other factors that can affect the outcomes. I'm sure they have considered what will happen if and when all the polar icecaps melt BESIDES the rising of water, namely the cooling effect this will have on various currents, thus perhaps starting off the next period of glaciation. Whatever the input of man (and yes, we are a part of nature!) it could be all about cycles. . .something we heathens have built into our beliefs.

What I think bothers moderns, especially the so-called great minds and leaders, is that the process is beyond our total control. The control freaks start squawking as they realize that the status quo is threatened but they fail to comprehend that no living system is static. . .leave that for the realm of the dead. The sooner they appreciate that we are a part of nature and can affect the environ for weal or woe and that ultimately we may have no control over the entire system (if any to begin with), the better off we will be by getting back into step with the natural environ. . .or go the way of the dodo which I think we heartily deserve given our appalling record as a species. Stoopid monkey.
