Trying to decide if I should finally leave a Heathen list that I'm not only an original member, but was a member of the list previous to it. Yrs ago it was pretty much trashed by a psycho Moderator and pretty much everyone without an Emotional connection to the privious list left. It never really recovered. Today, there are a handful of old-timey Heathens(like me) and a shitload of this yr's Wingnutz, the Tea-party Nutters. When it was founded, it was the "Patriot" Nutters who'd thrown off Christianity because they figured Nordic Gods fit their worldview of everyone not White as an Enemy better. Seems every decade has it's own "nutty" filling.
I guess I'm just getting old. Heck, it's been at least 2 decades since I 1st logged onto alt.pagan and did the same with alt.religion.asatru the yr it was founded. Truth is, I'm more likely to get a more substantive exchange on LJ than on ANY of the Heathen lists I'm still on...
Cheers,
pat

Is that the list that originally had a sign up saying "Stay away if you are a shrinking violet" and later strictly enforced a "No talking about posts on this list" rule? IOW the heathen Fight Club? While I know many people valued it, I've never understood why non-bullies did. For the gods' sake, come back to HT instead '-) I think the person who got on your wick has left, and I would love to have substantive discussions there more often.

That said, it's sad how these things get spoiled. I still miss ASHmail.

Spoiling is what we heathens do best. . .and we love to eat our own. We also have this proclivity that with each new crop of folk showing up at the door wanting to reinvent the wheel to make heathenry valid. What ends up happening is we see the same old mistakes being repeated and the same crap cropping up and over all dissatisfaction. You think with a so-called information society a little progress could be made to stop this gerbil-wheel to nowheres ville, but it hasn't happened yet.

I dipped into OM, briefly, in response to this. It's sad - so sad I didn't want to reply and depress you farther. Besides, I wasn't 100% sure you meant OM.

The best argument I've ever found for atheism, or for the more mainstream religions, is the kind of bottom feeders who frequent so-called new religious movements. Unfortunately they also frequent mainstream religions, but mainstream individuals also get a higher proportion of folks who are sane, sensible, and public spirited. Maybe this is because fewer, proportionately, have no successes or capabilities outside of religion.

I'm tired of illiterates, totally lacking in common sense, and completely incapable of critical thinking. And I don't care what political or religious dogma they may be blindly espousing.
