Trying to decide if I should finally leave a Heathen list that I'm not only an original member, but was a member of the list previous to it. Yrs ago it was pretty much trashed by a psycho Moderator and pretty much everyone without an Emotional connection to the privious list left. It never really recovered. Today, there are a handful of old-timey Heathens(like me) and a shitload of this yr's Wingnutz, the Tea-party Nutters. When it was founded, it was the "Patriot" Nutters who'd thrown off Christianity because they figured Nordic Gods fit their worldview of everyone not White as an Enemy better. Seems every decade has it's own "nutty" filling.
I guess I'm just getting old. Heck, it's been at least 2 decades since I 1st logged onto alt.pagan and did the same with alt.religion.asatru the yr it was founded. Truth is, I'm more likely to get a more substantive exchange on LJ than on ANY of the Heathen lists I'm still on...

Unfortunately, many are just here for the acting out period of their Developement. When I was a moderator, easily a 1/3 to a half of all new subs were college-aged. Basically, their "heathen-ness was simply a way to shock and diferentiater themselves form theitr parents and their ways, not an actual "Calling". The good thing is that they get borwed quickly and leave. The bad is that they usually throw some sort of tantrum before as a way of stating that they were "important"....
